Placement of Students
Students are placed in classes based upon age and level of ability. Placement is at the sole discretion of BADS. All children not taking class, or waiting for class to begin must be attended by a parent while in the studio. Students are to participate only in assigned classes. The only exception is for make-up classes assigned by a BADS instructor.
Instruction
In order to expose students to different styles of dance, various guest instructors may be utilized for any classes.
Class Rules
The following rules must be observed:
- Hair - should be pulled neatly away from the face. For ballet, a bun is required. All bangs below eyebrows and long side pieces must be pulled up with barrettes away from face. For other classes a ponytail (no longer than 4 inches) is acceptable.
- Attire - Proper attire is required.
- Ballet I: pink ballet shoes, pink tights, and a black leotard
- Ballet II: pink ballet shoes, pink tights, black or blue leotard
- Ballet III: pink ballet shoes, pink tights, black or blue leotard
- Ballet IV: pink ballet shoes, pink tights, any color leotard, ballet skirt
- Tap/Jazz: appropriate shoes, leotard, stretch pants, dance shirt. No sweat pants, sweat shirts, or baggy clothes.
- Combination classes: Any colored leotard, pink tights, pink ballet shoes, black or white tap shoes
- Behavior - Reasonable quiet is expected during class. While we make our classes fun at BADS, dance requires discipline. Parents are requested to support the instructor in decisions regarding behavior.
- Class Attendance - No admittance to class 15 minutes after class begins. Regular attendance is essential to your student's progress; therefore if attendance becomes a problem, the student may be moved to a different level of class at the instructor's and/or studio's discretion. We recognize that many of our students are involved in other activities, but it is essential that students attend all scheduled classes. Class activities/preparation are planned for an entire class. This is particularly important during a recital year. It is recommended that missing dance class not be used as a punishment, since regular attendance is discipline in itself. Conflicts with sports are not an acceptable excuse. There are no refunds for missed classes for any reason.
Miscellaneous
- No gum, jewelry, or bottled water during class.
- No food or beverage in the office, except bottled water for advanced students.
- No jewelry of any kind except wedding/engagement rings.
- Children are restricted to the studio, office, and front porch, and are asked to refrain from playing in the front yard - absolutely no climbing trees.
- Parents are asked to keep sick children at home while they are contagious so that other children and instructors do not become ill. We encourage children to cover their noses and mouths with their shirts when sneezing or coughing.
- No friends (including boyfriends) or siblings are allowed in the studio without the instructors consent - and then only if observing the class with the intent of future enrollment.
Cancelled Classes
BADS does not always follow the public school holidays or inclement weather closing schedule. All students should call the studio to confirm class cancellations. A make-up class will be scheduled only if the same class is cancelled more than once. There will be no make-up for combination classes - in this case, the second class of the week is considered the make-up class.
